Spatial epidemic network models with viral dynamics

چکیده
A mathematical model is presented for the spread of viral diseases within human or other populations in which both the dynamics of viral growth within individuals and the interactions between individuals are taken into account. We thus bridge the classical macroscopic approach to the growth and population dynamics of disease at the microscopic level. Each member, i , of the population of n individuals is represented by a vector function of time whose components are antibody numbers ai(t), and the virion level v i(t). These quantities evolve according to 2n differential equations, which are coupled via a transmission matrix B with elements b i j , i , j51,...,n , such that b i jv i is the expected rate of transmission of infectious particles from individual i to individual j . We study nearest-neighbor interaction and transmission which declines exponentially with distance between the individuals. Results are shown to be related to those of classical macroscopic ~SIR! models. We find threshold effects in the occurrence of epidemics as the parameters of the viral and antibody dynamics change. The distribution of the final size of an epidemic is estimated, for various initial patterns of infection, at various values of the parameter which describes the mobility of the population. We also determine the final size in the cases of extreme clustering and dispersion of infected individuals. @S1063-651X~98!11902-5#

متن کاملMathematical Model for Transmission Dynamics of Hepatitus C Virus with Optimal Control Strategies
An epidemic model with optimal control strategies was investigated for Hepatitus C Viral disease that can be transmitted through infected individuals. In this study, we used a deterministic compartmental model for assessing the effect of different optimal control strategies for controlling the spread of Hepatitus C disease in the community. Stability theory of differential equations is us...
متن کاملSpreading Dynamics of a Viral Infection in a Complex Network
We report a computational study of the spreading dynamics of a viral infection in a complex (scale-free) network. The final epidemic size distribution (FESD) was found to be unimodal or bimodal depending on the value of the basic reproductive number 0 R . The FESDs occurred on time-scales long enough for intermediate-time epidemic size distributions (IESDs) to be important for control measures....
متن کاملEnhancement of epidemic spread by noise and stochastic resonance in spatial network models with viral dynamics.
We extend a previous dynamical viral network model to include stochastic effects. The dynamical equations for the viral and immune effector densities within a host population of size n are bilinear, and the noise is white, additive, and Gaussian. The individuals are connected with an n x n transmission matrix, with terms which decay exponentially with distance. In a single individual, for the r...
متن کاملThe impact of constrained rewiring on network structure and node dynamics
In this paper, we study an adaptive spatial network. We consider an SIS (susceptible-infectedsusceptible) epidemic on the network, with a link/contact rewiring process constrained by spatial proximity. In particular, we assume that susceptible nodes break links with infected nodes independently of distance, and reconnect at random to susceptible nodes available within a given radius. By systema...
